Kristin Marquet, Founder & Creative Director, Marquet Media

Welcome, Kristin! Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your journey to becoming an expert in digital marketing and a champion for female entrepreneurs?

Thank you so much for having me. I'm Kristin Marquet, and my journey to becoming an expert in digital marketing and a champion for female entrepreneurs has been challenging and rewarding. I started my career in public relations by launching Marquet Media, working with start-ups and established brands to help them craft compelling stories and connect with their audiences. Over time, I realized the power of digital platforms to amplify these stories and create lasting impact, which led me to dive deep into digital-marketing strategies.

My passion for empowering women entrepreneurs stems from my experiences navigating the business's challenges. I launched FemFounder, a platform designed to provide practical tools, resources, and inspiration to women looking to start and scale their businesses. Whether offering templates, business advice, or sharing stories of other female founders, my goal has always been to help women turn their dreams into actionable realities.

Along the way, I've been fortunate to learn from amazing mentors and work with incredible clients, all of which have shaped my expertise in digital marketing and my commitment to uplifting others.

Your career path, especially with Marquet Company and FemFounder, is quite impressive. Can you share a pivotal moment or decision that significantly shaped your career trajectory?

Thank you for your kind words! One pivotal moment that significantly shaped my career was the decision to launch FemFounder while simultaneously evolving Marquet Media into a boutique consultancy with a clear focus on high-impact branding and PR strategies. This dual focus allowed me to tap into both my passion for empowering women entrepreneurs and my expertise in delivering tailored solutions to established businesses.

The moment came when I realized that many women, especially solopreneurs and small-business owners, were struggling to find accessible, actionable resources to build their brands. At the same time, I was also helping larger companies refine their messaging and connect with their audiences. Recognizing the gap in support for female founders, I decided to create FemFounder as a platform to provide the tools and guidance they needed. The decision to pursue these two parallel tracks wasn’t easy, but it taught me the value of clarity and focus.

By positioning Marquet Media as a bespoke consultancy and FemFounder as a resource hub for emerging entrepreneurs, I’ve been able to serve a broad spectrum of clients while staying true to my mission of helping others succeed. This dual path has not only shaped my career but also deepened my commitment to empowering others through thoughtful strategy and meaningful action.

You've talked before about the power of hyper-personalized brand experiences. Can you share a specific example of a brand, besides your own, that you feel excels in this area and what makes their approach so effective?

Absolutely! One brand that stands out to me for its excellence in hyper-personalized brand experiences is Sephora. The approach to customer engagement is a masterclass in leveraging data, technology, and thoughtful strategy to create meaningful, individualized experiences. Sephora’s Beauty Insider Program is a perfect example. The company uses customer purchase history, preferences, and even in-store interactions to curate personalized recommendations, exclusive offers, and tailored beauty tutorials.

For instance, through their app, customers can access a virtual try-on feature that allows them to experiment with makeup shades that suit their unique skin tones—all powered by their previous interactions and preferences. What makes Sephora’s approach so effective is the seamless integration of personalization across touchpoints. Whether you’re shopping online, in-store, or through their app, the experience feels cohesive and intuitive. It also empowers customers with personalized beauty advice and recommendations, making every interaction feel less transactional and more relational.

This level of personalization resonates with me because it aligns with the same values I bring to FemFounder and Marquet Media—understanding your audience deeply and creating experiences that not only meet their needs but also make them feel seen, valued, and understood. Sephora’s ability to do this at scale while maintaining that personal touch is truly inspiring and a benchmark for any brand aiming to foster lasting connections with its audience.

Building a brand from scratch can feel overwhelming. What's the most valuable lesson you've learned about branding that you wish you had known when you were first starting out?

One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned about branding—and one I wish I had known when I started—is that clarity and consistency are everything. When I started building my businesses, I tried to appeal to too many audiences and spread my focus across too many messages. I thought I could attract more clients by being everything to everyone. But the reality is a scattered brand confuses your audience and weakens your positioning.

The turning point for me was understanding that the strongest brands are the ones that know exactly who they are, what they stand for, and who they serve. Your brand is more than just your logo, colors, or tagline—it’s the feeling people associate with your business. Every touchpoint, from your website to your social media posts, should consistently reflect your core values and speak directly to your ideal audience. Now, with FemFounder and Marquet Media, I approach branding with a laser focus.

Whether helping solopreneurs or established businesses, I ensure that the story we tell is clear, compelling, and consistent. If I could go back to the beginning, I’d remind myself that clarity isn’t limiting—it’s liberating. It gives your brand purpose and direction, leading to stronger connections and greater success.

You've successfully navigated the world of SEO, a constantly evolving landscape. What advice would you give to digital marketers who are struggling to keep up with algorithm changes and maintain their website's ranking?

Navigating the ever-changing SEO landscape can feel daunting, but focusing on principles over fleeting tactics is key to success. Instead of chasing the latest algorithm update, prioritize creating high-quality, evergreen content that addresses your audience’s needs. Search engines reward content that solves problems, answers questions, and delivers real value.

Additionally, understanding user intent is critical—align your content with what people are genuinely searching for, whether it’s in-depth guides, quick answers, or product comparisons. Pair this with SEO fundamentals like fast-loading times, mobile-friendly design, and strong internal linking, and you’ll be well-prepared to weather any algorithm changes.

It’s also essential to diversify your approach and think long-term. While tools like Google Analytics and SEMrush can help you identify trends and adapt quickly, don’t rely solely on organic search. Incorporate email marketing, social media, and even paid ads to build a resilient traffic strategy. By focusing on user experience, testing new ideas, and staying informed through reputable sources, you can maintain your rankings and adapt to changes without being overwhelmed. Remember, the goal isn’t to outsmart the algorithm—it’s to create value that search engines and users recognize as indispensable.

Balancing entrepreneurship with personal well-being can be a challenge. What is one self-care practice that has been essential to your success and how do you incorporate it into your busy schedule?

Balancing entrepreneurship with personal well-being is always challenging, but one self-care practice essential to my success is intentional time-blocking for myself. As I schedule meetings and deadlines, I prioritize blocks of time for activities that recharge me, whether a quick morning walk, a run session, or simply enjoying a quiet moment with my family.

Treating these self-care moments as non-negotiable appointments, I ensure they remain a consistent part of my routine, even during the busiest weeks. When I’m intentional about carving out time for self-care, I show up as a more focused and energized version of myself, professionally and personally. It’s a reminder that success isn’t just about hitting goals—it’s about doing so in a way that allows you to enjoy the journey.

You've built thriving online communities. What advice would you give to someone looking to grow their own engaged online community around their brand or business?

Growing an engaged online community starts with building authentic connections and delivering consistent value. The cornerstone of any thriving community is understanding your audience—know their challenges, interests, and goals—and create content that resonates with them. Whether it’s sharing actionable tips, inspiring stories, or offering exclusive resources, focus on providing genuine value that keeps people coming back. Start small, but be consistent in how you interact with your audience through thoughtful replies to comments, direct messages, and personalized engagement.

Another key to success is building a sense of belonging. Encourage conversations by asking questions, hosting polls, or creating spaces where members can share their experiences. Tools like private Facebook groups, live webinars, or community platforms like Discord or Slack can amplify engagement and deepen connections. Most importantly, remember that growing a community takes time—invest in meaningful interactions over vanity metrics, and your audience will not only grow but also evolve into a loyal, active group that supports your brand.

Many aspiring entrepreneurs are hesitant to take the leap. What advice would you give to someone who is on the fence about starting their own business?

If you're on the fence about starting your own business, my advice is simple: start small, but start now. Feeling hesitant when stepping into the unknown is natural, but waiting for the "perfect time" can keep you in place. Instead, begin with something manageable—a side-hustle, a simple service, or a small product offering. Equally important is shifting your mindset. Entrepreneurship is as much about growth as it is about success.

Every step you take, whether it's a win or a lesson, brings you closer to creating the life and business you envision. Surround yourself with a like-minded network of friends, mentors, peers, or online communities, and remember: no one has it all figured out at the start. The most important thing is to take that first step and trust that clarity and momentum will follow.

What's next for you and your businesses? Are there any exciting projects or goals you're working towards that you can share with our readers?

Thank you for asking! One of the most exciting projects I’m currently focused on is the 'Dream It, Earn It' Planner, a digital tool designed specifically for female entrepreneurs. This planner isn’t just about organization—it’s about empowering women to set clear goals, map out actionable steps, and track their progress while managing their finances. It’s been incredible to see how a simple yet powerful resource like this can help women build the business and life they’ve always dreamed of.

Beyond that, I’m stepping further into the role of a tech founder by exploring how digital tools and platforms can better serve entrepreneurs. I’m passionate about creating resources that simplify complex processes, whether it’s scaling a business, managing PR, or enhancing productivity. One of my goals is to expand FemFounder’s digital product offerings and incorporate more interactive, tech-driven solutions, like Notion dashboards and AI-powered tools.

Additionally, I’m excited to grow my reach as a thought leader by continuing to work on strategies to make entrepreneurship more accessible for women everywhere. The journey ahead is all about innovation, empowerment, and creating impact.
